Product Details
This stunning early 20th century Famille Noire vase in the style of noted Chinese potter Wang Bing Rong (1840-1900) features carved elements including a heron at water's edge among lotus leaves and vegetation, colored in shades of green, lilac, and white. The vase's black ground has an almost iridescent quality not fully captured in the photographs. In Chinese lore the depiction of a heron with lotus symbolizes the sentiment, "may your path be always upward," and a white heron is a symbol of purity and harmony.

In overall very good condition for its age, the vase has no cracks, chips, or crazing. Wear in the glaze along the mouth of the piece as shown, likely from a lid which is no longer present. Original potter's mark on the bottom as well as the word "China," which was customarily applied to pieces intended for export after 1890. The vintage wood base is not original to the vase and dates to the 1970's. It has no large scratches or gouges.

Approximate dimensions: Vase measures 8 ¼ inches tall; 7 ½ inches in diameter at widest point. Stand measures 5 ½ inches in diameter and 1 ½ inches high.
