This vintage blue and white Chinese porcelain tea caddy is decorated with motifs symbolizing the Eight Immortals of Taoism. The lid features clouds, which symbolize rain, fertility, and good fortune, as well as a snake or serpent eating its tail, which represents the cyclic nature of the universe and the balance between yin, the destructive force of nature, and yang, the generative or creative force.
In overall great condition for its vintage age, neither the lid nor jar of this piece has cracks, chips, or crazing. Minimal wear of the unglazed portions as shown is consistent with the piece's age and prior use.
Approximate dimensions: 8 inches tall including the lid; 4 ¾ inches in diameter at widest point.
