A fabulous estate find, this one-of-a-kind pair of vintage ginger or temple jar lamps features a hand-painted lotus motif in shades of green punctuated by pink and purple flowers and gilt accents. The lotus blossoms are a symbol of honesty, purity, and enlightenment and are paired with a white phoenix on each side of the lamps, representing virtue and harmony, as well as the union of male and female. Just as shuāngxǐ, the Chinese symbol for double happiness figures prominently as a marriage decoration, it is possible that this one-of-a-kind pair of lamps was presented to commemorate a wedding celebration.

In overall great condition for their vintage age, neither lamp's porcelain body has cracks, chips, or crazing. Minor wear of the painted finish and lamp fittings as shown is consistent with age and prior use. The lamps' black wooden bases have slight wear as shown and are without large scratches or gouges. As each vase was hand-thrown and painted, they are slightly different in size, shape, and decoration.

The lamps have their original wiring and work; professional evaluation and rewiring is recommended for safety. Lamps are sold "as is" in "as found" condition, and no warranty is made about the function of the lamps with existing wiring.

Approximate dimensions: 17 ½ inches high to top of socket; 7 ½ inches in diameter at widest point.

Lamps ship fully insured via USPS Priority Mail within the contiguous 48 United States with Signature Confirmation required upon delivery.
