Vintage W.S. George Derwood Plates (Set of 4)
This set of four vintage plates by the W.S. George Pottery Company features a sweet border of pink roses and blue bows accented with green and gold scroll motifs. A perfect addition to any spring tabletop, we think these plates also pair well with Rose Medallion china.
In overall very good condition for their vintage age, none of the plates has large cracks or chips. All have considerable crazing (fine cracks in the glaze) as shown, consistent with their age and prior use. Some areas of discoloration and glaze irregularities as shown, most notable on the back of the of the plates. Plates are stamped Derwood W.S. George 411 A on the back. Derwood refers to the shape of the plate, manufactured by the company beginning in 1911.
Founded in 1904 in Ohio by William Shaw George, the W.S. George Pottery Company produced dinnerware including hotel ware until 1960 and had during its operation facilities in both Ohio and Pennsylvania.
